Component Component: Question Add Dialog

Get Started

Creating & adding questions to your questionnaires with RationalSurvey is real simple. From the questionnaire builder, click the "Add Question" button at the top of the questionnaire or within the question context menu.

This will bring up a dialog window containing two tabs: "Existing Question" & "New Question".

Existing Question Tab

The "Existing Question" tab lets you add a previously used question to your questionnaire. Your previously used questions are displayed within a sortable & searchable grid. Once you find the question you would like to add click the Plus icon to add it to the questionnaire immediately after the button you selected in the previous step.

More than one previously used question can be added at a time.

Click "Cancel" to return to the questionnaire. You'll see that the question has been added to your questionnaire.

New Question Tab

From the "New Question" tab select your question type: "Multiple Choice (Default)", "Free Response", "Multiple Choice Grid", or "Date" and then fill out the form.

Configure Multiple Choice Question

  • Question: Just enter your question here. Example: "Do you prefer cats or dogs?".
  • Answers: Separate your answers one per line or use commas. Example: "Dogs, Cats".
  • Answer Orientation: Specifies the orientation of your answers. Vertical or Horizontal.
  • Multiple Responses: Allow multiple responses to question. Specifying "Yes" will set the answer button to a checkbox. "No" switches to a radio.

  • Question: Just enter your question here. Example: "Quickly explain why you prefer cats or dogs or dogs to cats?".
  • Field Type: Determines the type of response field: "Textarea"(Multi-Line) or "Input"(Single Line) field
  • Field Size: Determines the size of the response field: Small, Medium, or Large
  • Answer Orientation: Specifies the orientation of your answers. Vertical or Horizontal.
  • Multiple Responses: Allow multiple responses to question. Specifying "Yes" will break responses submitted by your responders into separate responses by line.

Configure Multiple Choice Grid Question

  • Common Question: Enter the related question root here. Example: "How many times per day do you?" or "On a scale of 1 - 10 how would you rate:".
  • Specific Questions: Adds a question row to the multiple choice grid. Click "Add" button to add text as question row.
  • Answers: Specifies column displayed answers for the entire grid.
  • Answer Orientation: Specifies the orientation of your answers. Vertical or Horizontal.
  • Multiple Responses: Allow multiple responses to question. Specifying "Yes" will set the answer buttons to checkbox.

  • Question: Enter the question text. Example: "When is your date of birth".

Configure Image Question

  • Question: Enter the question text. Example: "Which of the following are images of birds?".
  • My Images: Click here to upload & add images or add previously uploaded images to your question.

  • Answer Images: Displays thumbnails of the images added to your question. Images can be sorted by dragging and dropping individual images. Captions can be added to each image by typing below each image within the bounding square.
  • Image Orientation: Displays the chosen images in a horizontal or vertical position.
  • Multiple Responses: Allows multiple answers to be chosen for the question. Enabling this option will change the input fields from html radios to checkboxes.

After you've entered in all the required fields, click "Create" to create the new question and add it to your questionnaire. To go back to the Questionnaire Builder without creating the question simply click "Cancel".
